چکیده

The optical excitations in C70 and higher fullerenes, including isomers of C76, C78, and C84, are theoretically investigated. We use a tight binding model with long-range Coulomb interactions, treated by the Hartree-Fock and configuration-interaction methods. We find that the optical excitations in the energy region smaller than about 4 eV have most of their amplitudes at the pentagons. The oscillator strengths of projected absorption almost accord with those of the total absorption. When the projection is performed on each pentagon and pentagon dimers, the resultant spectrum in the low energy region is quite different from that of the total absorption. The spectral shapes of the total absorption are turned out to be determined mainly by the geometrical distributions of the pentagons in the fullerene structures. ∗E-mail address: [email protected].

Optical Absorption in Higher Fullerenes: Effects of Symmetry Reduction

Optical absorption spectra of higher fullerenes (C70 and C76) as well as of C60 are calculated by a tight binding model with a long range Coulomb interaction. A reasonable parameter set gives calculated spectra which are in overall agreement with the experiments of of C60 and C70 in solutions. The variations of the spectral shape are discussed relating with the symmetry reduction going from C60...

Optical response of C60 and C70 fullerenes: Exciton and lattice fluctuation effects

Molecular exciton effects in the neutral and maximally doped C60 (C70) are considered using a tight binding model with long-range Coulomb interactions and bond disorder. By comparing calculated and observed optical spectra, we conclude that relevant Coulomb parameters for the doped cases are about half of those of the neutral systems. The broadening of absorption peaks is well simulated by the ...

Photoabsorption spectra of small fullerenes and Si-heterofullerenes.

We study the spectral properties of two kinds of derivatives of the carbon fullerene C(60), small fullerenes and Si-heterofullerenes, by ab initio calculations. The principal method of study is the time-dependent density-functional theory in its full time-propagation form. C(20), C(28), C(32), C(36), and C(50), the most stable small fullerenes in the range of C(20)-C(50), are found to have char...
